C Minor Jazz Blues Simplest Changes: soloing 5 | Print |  E-mail

In this series of lessons we will learn to improvise / solo over the changes of the C minor blues. We will use the C minor pentatonic scale as a "starting point" or first layer and add more notes/ layers as the lessons evolve.

In this 5th lesson We will introduce a 6th layer. You may have noticed that with the added notes and layers almost all of our scales are "comlete". We obtain F minor Dorian on the Fmin7 chord and Ab lydian dominant on the Ab7 chord.

In this lesson we will add a note/ layer to the Cmin7 chord, the A natural. This way we will play the C dorian scale.

The c minor pentatonic scale + D + A equals C dorian...

Beware: the A (natural) can sound harsh when played immediately on this chord. Play some notes of the pentatonic scale first... Also: keep all previous layers intact!
